September 11th Scholarships

The city of New York offers the NYS World Trade Center Memorial Scholarship to students who have family members they were financially dependant on that were either victims who died or were severely injured as a result of the September 11th attacks. They also have a general scholarship for individuals who have deceased family members who were firefighters, police officers, peace officers, or emergency medical service workers. They provide an allowance for room and board and transportation for both September 11th Scholarships. For the 2011-12 academic year, the living on campus allowance was $10,750 with a transportation allowance of $1,010. The Families of Freedom

This September 11th Scholarship is funded by the Families of Freedom foundation and awards students who were financially dependants of victims of the Sept. 11th attacks. This is a need-based scholarship with an amount that varies for each person. They employ the use of a financial need calculator to determine how much to give an individual so they can be able to finish college and receive a degree. They use the same financial need formula to find out how much assistance you need as the Federal Student Loan Program (the distributor of the low-interest Stafford and Direct Loans which are far better than private loans), but they tout that Scholarship America is more generous with their formula since they do not include various items like nontaxable income, student earnings or the value of the family residence in their calculations. The Needham 9/11 & Heroes Scholarship

Needham is an investment banking company that offers scholarships to those who were financial dependants of victims in the attacks as well as rescue workers who were injured as a result. Because of the financial significance the World Trade Centers had, Needham, a firm dedicated to company growth and investors, decided to set up a scholarship to help students afford a college education. This is strictly a need-based award as they require that you come from a household with a gross income of less than $125,000 before the attacks. Among these, they prefer applicants who are active in the community and perform well academically. With the attacks of our nations most visible financial symbols, Needham, as well as other financial firms, were inspired to reach out to their colleagues and their families.
